Pillar 02 of 05

The People

Right person, right seat, clear ownership.

The core question

Does every function have a clear owner accountable for an outcome, and is each person in the right seat?

The People turns a founder-dependent team into a business where every function has a clear owner accountable for an outcome, not just a task. Origin maps who owns what, evaluates whether each person is in the right seat, and surfaces where the gaps are before they cost you. Most founder-led businesses do not have a people problem. They have an ownership problem. The People pillar makes ownership visible and holds it.

When this pillar is missing

Work gets done by whoever is closest, escalations end at you, and nobody can say who actually owns what. That is not a people problem. It is an ownership problem.

What The People installs

  • The Ownership Map: a live map of every seat, who holds it, and what outcome it owns. Surfaces Founder Load and single points of failure
  • People Fit: each person checked against your core values
  • The 3C Check: Clarity, Conviction, and Capability confirmed for every seat. A failing check routes to a clear path: coach, redefine, or transition
  • The Gap Finder: flags unowned work, missing outcomes, missing backups, and overloaded owners, and turns each into a one-click action. Enough orphaned work proposes a new role automatically
  • Hiring playbooks, performance management, and exit frameworks

What Tuesday looks like after

Every function has one name on it. You can see Founder Load shrinking on a map instead of feeling it in your calendar.

FAQ

The People, honestly answered

How is this different from an org chart?

An org chart shows reporting lines. The Ownership Map shows outcomes: every seat, who holds it, what result it owns, and where the single points of failure are. It also surfaces Founder Load, the share of outcomes that still route through you. Most founders who see that number for the first time go quiet for a minute.

What happens when someone fails the 3C Check?

A failing check on Clarity, Conviction, or Capability routes to a clear path: coach (build the capability), redefine (reshape the seat), or transition (move them to a right seat or out). The point is a fair, repeatable process instead of a gut call made two quarters too late.

We are a small team. Do we need this?

Small teams need it most, because every person holds multiple seats and every gap lands on the founder. The Gap Finder is usually the eye-opener: it flags the work nobody owns, and on a small team that list is the founder’s job description.

Is this the right-person-right-seat idea from EOS?

The instinct is similar and predates any one framework. Origin’s version is built to be operated, not just discussed: People Fit checks values, The 3C Check confirms Clarity, Conviction, and Capability, and both live on The Ownership Map where gaps become actions. It runs as software inside the Origin OS Platform, not as a worksheet.
