I built my company’s website with Claude. It did not take ten minutes.

The process behind a 72-page site: the words first, one page at a time, and the phone test that made it feel like us.

Why this exists

An AI website alone will not make you the authority.

Everyone says AI can build you a website in ten minutes. It can. But a site thrown up with AI will not position you as the authority in your space, it will not bring you leads, and it will not get you found on Google or in AI answers by itself. That takes strategy: planning, site architecture, the copy and the design, decided before anything gets built.

So this playbook starts with the words, not the design. Then it shows how I described each page like I was explaining it to a person, and how I reviewed every page on my phone until it stopped looking cheap.

Zack Petrocca, founder of Origin

Who built this

Only things I actually run.

I am Zack, a fractional COO. I build the operating systems behind founder-led service businesses, and I run my own on Claude. Every playbook here is a system I use every week, written up the way I would walk a friend through it. The one rule under all of it: hand AI the task, never the judgment.

What is inside

What is in the playbook.

Three questions to answer first, then the prompts I actually used.

  1. The three questions

Who it is for, what you actually do, and what they should do next.

Try this"Answer these before a single page exists."

  2. The first prompt

It makes Claude interview you and write the words before it designs anything.

Try this"This is what stops the generic AI look."

  3. The page brief

How to describe one page like you are explaining it to a person.

Try this"One page at a time, never the whole site."

  4. The phone review

What to look for on your phone, and how to say what is wrong so it gets fixed.

Try this"Say exactly what looks wrong, and why."

  5. What stays yours

Deciding what you want to say, and what feels like you.

Try this"AI builds. You decide what is good."

A real first version in a day. The weeks after are where it starts to sound like you.

Who this is for

This is for you if

  • Your website is out of date and you know what it should say.
  • You are willing to review every page on your phone and say what is wrong.
  • You want to own and change your site without waiting on anyone.

Skip it if

  • You want a finished site in ten minutes with no input from you.
  • You do not know yet who your customer is. Start there first.

How fast it pays off

Useful the same day.

  1. First hour

Answer the three questions. Paste in the first prompt and let it interview you.

  2. First day

Build the home page and one service page. Review both on your phone.

  3. The weeks after

One page at a time. Every time something feels off, say exactly what and why.

Setup: A day for a first version. Weeks to make it yours.. One email opens this playbook and every other one in the library.

Before you open it

Do I need to know how to code?

No. You need to know what you want to say, and to be honest on your phone about what looks wrong.

Did it really take one day?

The first version did. It also looked like every other AI website. Making it feel like Origin took weeks, and it is still changing.

What does it run on?

Claude Code on my own computer builds it. The site is hosted separately, like any other website.

The words first. Then the pages. Then your phone.

Your first name, your email, and the whole library is open.

You are in. Every playbook is open, and a copy is on its way to your inbox.

AI, Honestly · Episode 17

Build your website with Claude

I built my company’s website with Claude. No designer, no developer. It is 72 pages now. The first version took one day, and it looked like every other AI website. Making it feel like us took weeks. This is the process, including the part that took the longest.

  • Setup A day for a first version. Weeks to make it yours.
  • You need
    • A paid Claude plan
    • Claude Code (the Code tab in the Claude desktop app)
    • An hour to answer three questions about your business before anything gets built

What you end up with

A website that says what your business actually does, in your words, that you can change yourself any time. Not a template with your logo on it.

Honest version: the first version took me one day, and it looked like every other AI website. What made it work was the strategy underneath: who it is for, how the pages fit together, and every word on them.

1. Answer three questions before anything gets built

  1. Who is it for? One kind of customer, described the way you would describe them to a friend. Not "small businesses". Which ones, and what is going wrong for them.
  2. What do you actually do? In their words, not yours. What changes for them after working with you.
  3. What should they do next? One action. Book a call, take a quiz, buy the thing. Every page points there.

2. Start with this prompt

Open Claude Code in an empty folder and paste this. It writes the words with you before it designs anything, which is what keeps the site from looking generic.

The first prompt
I want to build a website for my business: [one sentence on what the business does].

Before you design or build anything, interview me one question at a time: who the site is for, what problem they have, what I actually do about it, what proof I have, and the one thing I want every visitor to do next.

Then write the words for the home page only, in plain language, the way I talk. Show me the words before you build the page.

3. Describe one page at a time

Never ask for the whole site. Describe each page like you are explaining it to a person who has never seen your business.

The page brief
Build the [page name] page.

Who lands here: [who, and what they were looking for]
What they need to understand: [the two or three things, in order]
What they should do next: [the one action]
What it should feel like: [calm and expensive, friendly and quick, whatever is true for you]

Use only the words we agreed on. Never invent a number, a review or a client.

4. Review every page on your phone

Most of your visitors are on a phone, and most of what looks wrong only shows up there. Pull the page up, scroll it like a stranger, and say exactly what is wrong. Vague feedback gets vague fixes.

The phone review
I am looking at the [page name] page on my phone. Here is what is wrong:

- [e.g. This looks cheap: the heading is too big and the buttons look like a template]
- [e.g. Too much text before I know what you do]
- [e.g. Move the proof up, it is buried]

Fix these, then tell me exactly what you changed.

What goes wrong, and the fix

  • It looks like every other AI website. You skipped the words. Go back to the three questions.
  • It invents a testimonial or a number. Put "never invent a number, a review or a client" in every brief.
  • It looks great on your laptop and broken on a phone. Review on the phone first, every time.
  • Every page says the same thing. Each page gets one job and one reader. Say which.

AI can build the website now. Knowing what you want it to say is still on you, and it is most of the work.
